Synastry Overview

Synastry compares two Natal Charts to reveal relationship dynamics. Examine planetary contacts and house overlays to see how energies blend.

See also: Natal Overview.

🧭 Construction & Method

No new chart is cast: the two natal charts are overlaid. Two techniques are combined — inter-aspects (every body of A against every body of B, with the same aspect arithmetic as natal work) and house overlays (where A’s planets fall in B’s houses, and vice versa). Synastry is distinct from the composite chart (midpoints of positions) and the Davison chart (midpoint in time and space).

Key factors

📐 Arith(m)etic Worksheet

Following the book’s method — “pull three datasets from the catalog” (body, aspect, body) and combine them with sign and house — record each contact as:

a (body 1) 1 (sign of a) house of a aspect (operator) b (body 2) 2 (sign of b) house of b orb applying/separating
… … … … … … … … …

Then read: (a + 1)^house(a) × (b + 2)^house(b) = interpretation — i.e., body-in-sign, coloured by house, joined by the aspect’s quality. In Synastry work the bodies come from two different charts (A and B).
