Technical Approach to Davison Charts
Technical Approach to Davison Charts
Use midpoint calculations to create the chart and then interpret it as a natal chart for the relationship. Checking progressions and transits to the Davison chart reveals timing of shared experiences.

What to look at, in order:
1. Recalculate from UT, not local time — mixing time zones is the commonest error
2. Record which midpoint method (arithmetic vs. great-circle) the software used
3. Interpret exactly like a natal chart, then compare the Davison chart back to each person’s natal chart (synastry with the relationship)
4. Use transits/progressions to the Davison chart for relationship timing
Ronald C. Davison’s relationship chart (1977): a real chart cast for the midpoint in time and the midpoint in space between two births. Arithmetic: JD_mid = (JD_A + JD_B) / 2 (both in UT); φ_mid = (φ_A + φ_B) / 2; L_mid = (L_A + L_B) / 2, taking the shorter way around the globe (some programs use the great-circle midpoint instead). Because it is a real moment, the Davison chart has genuine planetary positions, houses and its own transits and progressions — unlike the composite (midpoint) chart.
